The Showdown at Hell's Half Acre
No Limit Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament

Hell's Half Acre

Benefiting The Henry House
and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Hosted by Lance Federick & JJ Henry

A great Texas Hold'em Tournament to raise funds for The Henry House and our friends at The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

What a wonderful day we had at the first annual Showdown on Saturday April 20! Thanks to our major sponsors and so many willing participants, the tournament was a hit. Fort Worth, TX Magazine broadcast the event in the months leading up, lending a fantastic turnout of support. Guests were welcomed to Firestone & Robertson Distillery on a beautiful Saturday morning to a Bloody Mary Brunch hosted by our great friend Chef Jon Bonnell. With a coffee bar by Avoca Coffee, opportunities to get your boots shined or watch sporting events on the big screen with GoVision, there was quite a buzz circulating! All 110 players took their seats at 11 a.m. sharp and were welcomed by co-hosts JJ Henry and Lance Federick (CFF Board Member), who then introduced Mayor Betsy Price who officially kicked off the tournament with "cards in the air!"

All day the player field grew smaller but the excitement only increased. A dozen auction items stood by for participants, as well as raffles, a Royal Flush competition to win a new Mercedes CLS provided by Park Place Mercedes, a dessert vault with poker themed treats donated by Red Jett Sweets. Players and friends heard great acoustic entertainment but the highlight of the day was hearing from our dear friend Paige from the CFF Board who is a CF patient and truly put the purpose of the day in perspective. Great events are fun, but we were aiming for FUNDS raised!

As spouses and non-playing arrived later in the day for a Waters Coastal Cuisine dinner by Chef Bonnell, the final tables drew crowds! Congratulations to our winner Robert Higgins and all of the top-20 finishers. We are excited to announce that in addition to the fun that was had by all, the Henry House raised over $40,000 for the two Foundations!

Drives for a Smile

Join The Henry House in cheering on JJ Henry for the month of February as he "Drives for a Smile" on the course!

For every birdie JJ makes on Tour in February, The Henry House will donate one dozen youth toothbrushes to Cook Children's Hospital who will distribute to underserved families in our community.

Friends of JJ/The Henry House who want to assist our efforts can drop off at The Henry House office during the month of February or contact the office to arrange a pick up (wrapped, soft, children's toothbrushes only); learn more about what the Children's Oral Health Coalition is accomplishing!

Did you know? There are children in Tarrant County who are missing school because of dental pain. In Tarrant County, more than 73,000 parents say their child did not visit a dentist in the previous 12 months. 13.6% or more than 42,500 parents say their child did not receive all the dental care needed. When a child is suffering from oral health disease, it not only affects their overall health but their ability to speak, learn, eat or participate in other activities. Local school nurses have reported that many children in our community do not have the basic tool – a toothbrush, to help them in their battle against tooth decay.

So follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook to follow our February birdie counter and #driveforasmile!

A White Hot Sixth Year Success!

The Henry House Foundation is proud and humbled to announce the success of our sixth annual White Hot Night Gala that took place at JJ's home club, Mira Vista Country Club, on Sunday September 16. We once again partnered with the wonderful Ben Hogan Foundation who co-hosted the evening as well as the Ben Hogan Invitational on the following Monday. Raising over $200,000, we look forward to joining our partner at the Hogan Foundation to fund tangible, meaningful projects to beneift the healthcare and well-being of youth in our community.

With special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Justin Golf, we were able to host a generous room of Fort Worth's finest for dinner, dancing and entertainment. The spectacular Dan Dunn Paint Jam wowed audiences with his speed painting performances. To celebrate the 100th birthdays of two of golf's greatest, we saw Dan bring to life a one-of-a-kind dual portrait of Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson in front of our eyes!  The unforgettable Neal McCoy put on the best show we've seen with high energy and had the crowd dancing until we turned on the lights - we thank Neal for being such a fun part of this fantastic night.

Most importantly, with the help of co-host John Denton of TCU, JJ was able to proudly and with gratefulness speak with the crowd of the growth and platform the Henry House has grown to in the last six years. Excitedly recapping our year with Cook Children's, the LemonAID Kids for a Cause, the Henry House Hideaway and more, what a wonderful evening it was to raise money and awareness for local youth projects.

Many thanks to all of our corporate sponsors and table sponsors for their loyalty and faith in our mission.

White Hot Night Gala on Sunday, September 11

The 5th Annual Henry House White Hot Night Gala will begin the festivities on Sunday September 11th at Mira Vista Country Club to celebrate the tournament kickoff. The evening includes cocktails by Grey Goose, full dinner, premium live and silent auction, a program by JJ and Brian Estridge followed by Paint Jam by Dan Dunn and our headlining performer Jack Ingram! It's truly a fantastic cause and as you know from 2010, the "all white hot" attire makes it quite memorable. The golf tournament will follow, with the Ben Hogan Invitational taking place on Monday September 12th. Tournament play will be a four ball, stroke play with two man teams in an open or net division, concluded with six PGA Tour teams in a Pro bracket for all Invitational players and guests to follow and watch. Play will take place at Mr. Hogan’s home course, Shady Oaks Country Club, and includes breakfast, tee gift packages, lunch and drinks on the course as well as a concluding awards ceremony with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. One of the most special parts of this event is the trophy. Each division competes for the crystal “Hands of the Hawk” trophies, which are stunning crystal replicas of Mr. Hogan’s grip that are commissioned specifically for this event and unlike any other in golf.

The Invitational teams run $5000 and include four Gala tickets as well. Gala tickets are $400 pp and we sell private, reserved tables of 10 for $4000 which include table signage and recognition. It's a fantastic event that benefits the best children's organizations in the Metroplex. Specifically, our fundraising and promotion efforts this year will be to Cook Children's toward the Henry House Teen Room, we've been working with CCH on a fundraising goal so that ongoing programming and support for this room and the entire Kid's Zone in the new wing can be maintained through our efforts. It's really an exciting year for our event between this focus and our fifth anniversary, it'll be a great year for both the Gala & the Hogan Invitational!

Fifth Anniversary White Hot Night Sets Record

We are so pleased to announce our fifth annual White Hot Night Gala on Sunday, September 11th raised over $250,000! The evening took place at Mira Vista with valet provided by Rent-A-Frog, fabulous cocktails by Grey Goose Vodka and of course all our guests looking sharp in their white hot attire. This year's efforts helped us raise funds and awareness to fulfill our mission of tangible projects around the community to benefit the healthcare and well-being of children. Once again we were honored to partner with The Ben Hogan Foundation and the Hogan Invitational held that Monday at Mr. Hogan's home course, Shady Oaks Country Club.Country rock superstar Jack Ingram provided fantastic entertainment and brought the house down with a surprise duet with long-time supporter Pat Green! Alongside Dan Dunn of Paint Jam, we celebrated amazing auction success, lively crowds and incredibly support.

Specifically, this year we celebrate continued work on the Henry House Teen Room in Cook Children's Hospital's new wing and Kid's Zone. The focus will be to match and continue the wonderful gift of $300,000 given by Jewel Charity and the Henry House in May to Cook Children's toward the Henry House Teen Room. Complete with plans for lounges, studios and other youthful dreams, this zone will serve a much-needed personal happiness sector in this wonderful hospital. Through our efforts, ongoing programming and support for this room and the entire Kid's Zone in the new wing can be maintained.

Many thanks to our amazing sponsors, without whom we could not achieve this great impact on the kids in our community!

JJ and Henry House 'Tee it Up' for second year in Connecticut to benefit Henry's hometown kids

The Henry House Foundation and The First Tee of Metropolitan New York "teed it up" for the 2nd Annual J.J. Henry Invitational at the beautiful Patterson Club in Fairfield, CT on Monday, June 27. Through the J.J. Henry Invitational, the Henry House will support the future construction of a new learning center at The First Tee Facility at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Bridgeport, CT. The event was especially significant as The Patterson Club is where JJ grew up and learned the game of golf, just miles from his childhood home.

The day opened with a clinic taught by Henry for 60 kids from The First Tee at Fairchild Wheeler. Donned in Henry House shirts and Greg Norman hats, Henry showed the kids that it is possible to achieve your dream, since he is living his dream of being a PGA TOUR pro every day. He also awed the kids with drives that went well into the woods at the end of the range and gave them important tips on how to improve their golf game. Each youngster was able to get additional tips from Henry and the Pros when they hit their own balls on the range and practiced putting on the 18th green.

Events continued with an 18-hole shamble, ceremoniously started with J.J. Henry's opening tee shot followed by a bagpiper down the fairway. Each group was paired with a participant from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, who served as the honorary team captain for their group - many of whom were scratch golfers and led their teams in scoring!

Following golf was an exceptional evening hosted by ESPN Sports Personality, Chris "Boomer" Berman, Henry's playing partner in the ProAm at Pebble Beach. After stories for Henry and Berman of the US Open, playing Pebble together and other memories, JJ spoke of the Henry House Foundation and the great, tangible things we are able to do children in the community. A check for $100,000 from The Henry House, representing last year's success, was handed over to the chapter, then First Tee participant Mercedes McKelvie of Bridgeport, CT took the stage to discuss the importance of The First Tee in her life. A live auction with premier items including trips to Kiawah Island and Bermuda rounded out this great day.

Many thanks to all those that attended the event in support of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. The Henry House would also like to thank the staff at The Patterson Club for organizing a great day, with special thanks go to the major sponsors for their support of this event: Turner Construction, Symetra Financial, IBM, Palsa + Palsa, and Terex. Additional thanks go to our friends at The First Tee of Metropolitan New York for their tireless partnership efforts in hosting the day, as well as committee members Jim Palsa and Greg Fell, and Vicki Yurkerwich and the team of wonderful volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible.

We look forward to another successful event in 2012!

Great Week at Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

The Henry House Hideaway hosted its fourth year at Colonial with a great skybox on the 10th fairway overlooking the 18 green. With the help of the tournament and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, we were able to reach more children than ever before! The Hideaway boasted two Wii stations, arts & crafts, fun T-Shirts, free kid's lunch sponsored by Chicken Express and a great view of the exciting golf tournament! Many thanks to the Tournament for their help in creating the perfect kids zone. We are looking forward to seeing you all next year at the Hideaway once again!

Henry House Foundation Gives Away Biggest Check to Date!

Together with the Jewel Charity, JJ Henry was able to hand over a $300,000 check to Cook Children's Hospital on Tuesday May 17. When Jewel Charity offered to bring The Henry House on board for 2011 through their Charity Classic golf tournament, both groups soon realized we had a homerun partnership to maximize funds for the kids.” JJ Henry proudly committed the $300,000 to execute a Henry House Teen Room designed by long-term patients. The lounge area in the new wing will be exactly what the patients want, and most importantly what they need. The Henry House is pleased to bring a smile to these kids’ faces, to give them a sense of peace and normality during their stay. And we are excited that this check is just the beginning. The Foundation will continue to support this wonderful Children's Hospital as we pledge to raise more funds and awareness for this project and the entire new Kids’ Zone for Cook Children’s.

Henry House raises $100,000 in Connecticut

The Henry House Foundation is pleased to announce a successful event in JJ’s home town of Fairfield, Connecticut. On Monday, June 28, The Henry House teamed with The First Tee Met New York to host the first ever JJ Henry Invitational. The day began with a kid’s clinic for 75+ youth from The First Tee chapter in Fairfield Country as the youth enjoyed a clinic from JJ, an incredible show by world-famous trick shot artist Peter Johncke, and participated in a station clinic with a dozen local pros. The kids enjoyed lunch and gift bags before ending the morning.

Shortly thereafter 25 foursomes representing corporate and personal groups from the Tri-State are took to the course for a shamble tournament, each ‘captained’ by a First Tee participant who played alongside the groups. Fairfield native and tennis great James Blake was among the players supporting the First Tee on Monday. With great merchandise and demo presence from Callaway Golf and the hospitality of the beautifully renovated Patterson Club, the golfers played well despite some scattered thunderstorms. Birdie Sponsors for the day included IBM and First County Bank.

Monday evening began the JJ Henry Invitational Reception at The Patterson Club with over 250 guests to enjoy fine New England fair, speeches from JJ and a First Tee star participant, Monica Diaz, who stole the show. Along with an incredible silent auction and raffle, the live auction that concluded the program helped the Foundation raise over $100,000 in one day to benefit The First Tee chapter in Fairfield County in hopes to better their facilities.

It was a dream fulfilled for JJ to return to his home city and home club and host such a memorable day to benefit this wonderful cause.

“A special thanks for asking Sam to participate in the JJ Henry Event. She had an unbelievable time. It was so much fun listening to her talk about their day in the car on the way home. You gave Sam a special gift of a moment in her life, which I know she will share for years to come.” - Mother of First Tee participant

A Hogan – Henry Partnership

The Henry House Foundation is pleased to announce a partnership with the Ben Hogan Foundation to promote our collective missions and benefit The First Tee of Fort Worth. As a team, we hosted an incredibly memorable event this fall – the first ever Ben Hogan Invitational Golf Tournament taking place alongside the Henry House Foundation’s third annual White Hot Night Gala. Our groups were thrilled to be a part of hosting such a unique and exclusive event to be both competitive and enjoyable. It was an honor to have the Hogan name next to the Henry House mark, and it was a key partnership in bringing together such a strong group of supporters for The First Tee Fort Worth.

As a direct result of the tournament and gala, we collectively raised close to $300,000 to help break ground on the Ben Hogan Learning Center for The First Tee of Fort Worth.

Ben Hogan Foundation

This facility will provide offices, teaching bays, classrooms, a study room, library and a Ben Hogan museum. The Ben Hogan Learning Center will be visible proof that children from similar backgrounds to Mr. Hogan’s can achieve their dreams.

The White Hot Night Gala took place Sunday September 20, 2009 followed by the Ben Hogan Invitational Golf Tournament that Monday September 21. Please contact our office for more details.
